Stella’s river is a resurgence river that flows in Friuli Venezia Giulia. It has its origin in the town of Flambro and ends after 45km into Marano’s Lagoon, close to the Fishermen’s Village, inside the natural reserve of the “Stella’s river mouth”, a protected natural area of Friuli Venezia Giulia and an oasis where a lot of species of birds find their home: geese, herring gulls, swans, red and gray herons, swamp hawks and many more. To sail the river is a particular feeling that can be appreciated by everyone, from elders to children.

The journey begins from Lignano Sabbiadoro’s beach, bathhouses 4 and 10, where our comfortable 12 seats boat, will wait for you to sail towards the lagoon.

Entering the river’s mouth, we will navigate through the canals, flanked by reeds, that will bring us to what we call “Casoni”.

In fact, besides enjoying the beauty of Marano’s lagoon, the trip lets you discover a lot about the distinctive features of these areas, like the typical “casoni”, houses that were used as a shelter by hunters and fishermen, that together make a proper village.

Over the course of the journey we will reach a particular fishing shed, typical of our lagoon and river area, named “bilancione”, name that comes from the big squared net that gets immerged and lifted up periodically to collect fish.

The navigation then proceeds along Stella’s river until we reach a town named Titiano where, at a river bend, there’s a restaurant called “Al fiume Stella”, perfect for a 20 minutes stop and to have an aperitif!

To get on and down the boat it is necessary to get knee-deep wet, so we advise to wear comfortable clothes: shorts or swimsuit, a cover-up for the stop at the restaurant, flip-flops and a hoodie or windbreaker.
